I profited from reading your article in the Nov. 9, 2007, issue entitled "The 1962 Mass with Post-19780 Innovations: Is it Likely?". I have a related question that this article does not discuss. The Holy Father seems to intend that the reverent celebration of the 1962 Mass will exert an influence on the celebration of the 1970 Mass. In fact, videos of the Pope celebrating Mass show him using some of the gestures prescribed in the 1962 Mass but not mentioned in the rubrics for the Novus Ordo (e.g., bowing with hands folded at the phrase "Gratias agamus Domino Deo nostro" in the preface dialogue). Should this cause us to doubt the continued validity of the principle, enunciated by the Congregation for Divine Worship in a response to a dubium (Notitiae 14:301 (1978)) that where the new rubrics are silent, the old rubrics are not to be done in the Novus Ordo?

I would be most grateful for any insight you would have on this matter.

The St. Joseph Foundation has always done wonderful and powerful work for the Catholic Church. You will find a review of Charles Wilson's very important article on a "hybrid" Mass at http://dustofthetime.blogspot.com.

Dear All at St. Joseph Foundation,

Thank you for your good work. Please comment on the recent action of Gov. Cuomo of New York and the Catholic legislators who helped pass a law establishing same-sex "mariage".

Is the penalty for such a grave offense and scandal excommunication? Would this be automatic as in the case of having, or helping someone to procure an abortion?

Sincerely In Christ,
David Zarri
